First Food!

On Sunday, Norah got her first taste of actual food--avocados! Delicious and nutritious (in fact, avocados are so good for you humans could live on them exclusively). Here she is in her big girl high chair (thanks, Sarah!)

I mashed up some organic avocado and mixed it with breast milk (now, doesn't that sound delicious!) and put some on her tray so she could play with it and get it all over her hands.

She gobbled down all that I would give her (only about half a tablespoon right now).

She seemed to absolutely love the avocado and had no adverse reaction to it. That was until about 8:00 pm last night when she woke up screaming. She then woke up every half hour from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am and the only thing that would calm her down was nursing. We brought her into bed at 2:00 and she slept the rest of the night very fitfully, screaming and demanding to nurse every couple of hours. I don't think it could be a coincidence that she had such a bad night the night after first getting some food. Her pediatrician agreed and thought it wasn't a reaction to avocado necessarily, but to food in general (it may have given her some heartburn and would have regardless of what kind of food we had given her).

I am disappointed, but we'll try again in a few weeks.
