Friday Family Movie Night

Last night was our inaugural Friday family movie night. It got off to a bit of a rough start because Norah and I stayed too long at our play date and we were a bit rushed. We also failed to plan what movie we would watch and made a frantic dash for something appropriate. Thankfully, cable television now comes with 9,875 channels so we were able to find Monsters, Inc. only 15 minutes into it.

Apparently Norah thinks it is in 3-D.

Pizza was just a boboli crust with olive oil, parmesan and mozzarella cheese, basil, roma tomatoes, and artichoke hearts.

I was shocked by how much she loved the movie and how long it kept her attention. This morning the first thing she told me when she woke up at 5:45 am (um, WTF????) was 'Mike has big eye' and 'Sully just big.'

I can't wait for next Friday.

Photo Dump

No real organization to this point, just a handful of fun pictures from the past couple of weeks.

Norah and Ruby play a Memorial Day duet on Caleb's piano (well, technically Caleb's dad's piano...)

Norah loves taking pictures with my phone. She's getting really good at the self-portraits.

BVZ likes it when we send him pictures if he's at work and I am not. He calls this 'Death by Baby Love.'

We were taking a walk and the wind blew Norah's hat over her face. She thought it was the best thing that ever happened to her and insisted upon walking around the block like this.

Ava's extended family was in town for her birthday last week, so we met up with them at a local park with a big water play area. Caleb was not interested at all, Ruby was in seventh heaven, and Norah and Ruby were a little more cautious (so they braved it together).

The slides were fun but got really hot.

At Ava's party, Norah and Ruby took turns riding on Ava's new ride-on. They insisted upon pushing each other around even though it was motorized.

Trapped in the bouncy house and loving it.

The princess stuff is at the very bottom of the dress up bucket. I borrowed said bucket to use as a beer ice chest for work (classy, right?) and when everything got put back in the princess garb was at, ahem, the top.

A sink full of soap and water means I can actually make dinner during Norah's waking hours.

Reading glasses.

Dancing to Lady Gaga while waiting for dad to get home.

My New Favorite

This picture was taken by my lovely and talented friend JKR at her beautiful and charming daughter Ava's 2nd birthday party last weekend. Babies no more, that's for sure.

Memorial Day Road Trip

We spent Memorial Day weekend in South Lake Tahoe where our friends, the W's have a vacation home (doesn't that sound awesome-'we stayed at our friend's vacation home...') We stayed there a few years ago when we went to a wedding up there and that time the trip took about 4 hours. This time it took about 6 and a half hours because of all of the stops we had to make. And by we, I mean I. We first stopped for gas because I had failed to fill up like I was supposed to (I hate getting gas), then we stopped because I wanted to have lunch at In and Out, then we stopped because I needed coffee, and then we stopped because I had to pee. BVZ's head was about to explode.

Here is Norah enjoying In and Out for the first time. She was just so-so about it.

Look at all of that snow!

The only thing on the agenda the entire weekend was relaxing and the front yard proved to be a good place for a little soccer practice.

Norah spent the majority of time either running...

or collecting pine cones.

We took a very scenic and steep hike from the top of a vista point down to the lake. I carried Norah in the Ergo on the way down and BVZ carried her back up. I thought I might die but I had to keep my complaining to a minimum since there were other people around.

Check out Baby Wyatt in his 6 month old glory.

The lake was beautiful, but freezing.

Norah didn't care and ripped her socks and shoes off.

Baby Kai, who just turned one, was not satisfied to wade in the water-he wanted to swim.

Norah collected sticks for everyone.

Kai literally had to be restrained by his mom.

We ate lunch at a picnic table with the most aggressive chipmunks I have ever seen. They were tiny, but mean! They would jump on the table to try and steal food and we were seriously afraid they were going to attack one of the kids. BVZ got a stick and starting shaking it at them to try and scare them away, but they weren't phased one bit. He even hit one! (sort of accidentally) but it didn't stop it from continuing to charge. We actually packed up and left because they were so aggressive. We were in their space, so I guess we couldn't really blame them.

Norah spent most of the time at the house loving on the babies. She couldn't get enough of them. She woke up from her naps and in the mornings with 'Go upstairs, see babies NOW!' She and Kai liked chasing each other around. Wyatt couldn't move very fast, but his feet were perfect for tickling.

We took lots of long walks. Mostly to get ice cream.

The Dad brigade.

Norah probably kissed Wyatt on the mouth 5,678 times. Hope he has a good immune system.

The drive home was much faster and we actually only made one stop to eat dinner at a random Applebee's. Now, I have eaten at some of the best places in Paris and some of the worst places in El Paso and so I feel I can appreciate both ends of a very wide spectrum. Applebee's definitely falls on one side of the curve. I know this, I expect this, and I have made peace with this. BVZ, however, gets honestly disappointed every time we road trip eat at a place like Applebee's and it's not great. He has high expectations, I guess. Norah was similarly unimpressed.

It was a great trip and a fun weekend. Thanks W's for your hospitality!

Baby 2 (ETA: a doll, not a sibling)

Norah's cousins gave her a baby doll for Christmas. Norah totally digs Baby (not to be confused with Baby Nanor-the soft doll). She dresses and undresses her, changes her diaper, gives her the pacifier, puts her to bed, wakes her up, strolls her around, and offers her food and water. It's pretty cute.

Last week Norah still had a cough and she must have coughed and then barfed while she was taking a nap (I know, so gross). Her bed was totally pukey and poor Baby got doused the worst. BVZ and I did our best to clean her (hey, we even used oxy-clean) but it was soaked all the way through the fabric part and Baby's giant rubber head prevented us from just throwing her in the washing machine. So, Baby went to Baby Doll Heaven (ie, the kitchen trash can-I felt totally guilty about this and wanted to recycle her in some way but it just didn't seem feasible or sanitary).

We had to replace Baby before Norah figured out what had happened, so a quick trip to Target and Baby 2 made her debut.

Baby had brown eyes and Baby 2 has bright blue eyes. I actually liked the brown eyed one better because I wanted her to be a little different looking than Norah, but blue was all that Target had and beggars can't be choosers. They actually had some African-American dolls of the same brand and size so Baby 2 is going to get a sister, I think.

Norah has taken to Baby 2 just fine although she knows there is something a bit off. She keeps touching her eyes and saying 'Baby, eyes!' but seems to be okay with it.
